Donald James Ackley, 85, of Janesville, WI passed away at his home on Sunday, November 23, 2014. Donald was the son of Milfred Ackley and Marie (Martin) Ackley
and was born in Baraboo, WI on November 22, 1929. He moved to Madison in 1942 and to Janesville in 1980. He received his education at Madison East High School and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. While in school he excelled at football and hockey. Donald married Eleanor “Ellie” Lunde on August 26, 1950. He retired after 42 years of working for Gisholt/Gilman Engineering retiring as Senior Project Manager. He was an avid Packer and Badger fan and enjoyed woodworking, golfing and over 40 years of fishing in Canada.
Donald is survived by his wife of 64 years, Eleanor, daughter, Susan (Ed) Conner of Buffalo Grove, IL, son, Stephen (Patricia) Ackley of Janesville, WI, four grandsons: Andrew and Scott Conner and Kevin and Ryan Ackley, sisters-in-law, Mildred Davis of Oshkosh, WI, Lorraine Howard of Mesa, AZ, brother-in-law, William Rosensteel of California, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters-in-law Joan Rosensteel and Betty Lunde, brothers-in-law, Don Howard, Robert Davis and Alvin Lunde.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, November 28, 2014 at First Lutheran Church, 612 N. Randall Avenue, Janesville. Pastor Naomi Garber will officiate. Visitation will be Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Church. Henke-Clarson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
